Although they are able to live up to twenty years in the wet savanna’s of North and South Carolina, Venus Fly Traps have unfortunately become a species of concern due to habitat loss. They have been introduced to new area’s like New Jersey, but only occur naturally in an 60 mile radius near Wilmington, North Carolina. Getting most of their energy from photosynthesis, Venus Fly Traps will eat spiders and beetles to get nutrients not found in their soil. Caring for a Venus Fly Trap in your home will take some work so try to get their conditions to best match those they have in the wild.
